A Response to the 16 word challenge at Fireside Poetry.com-

The words:

Dowry midnight revelry drown

irreproachable amatory pretty fingertips

Retribution

It was a midnight revelry,
And the fire was burning high,
I watched them dancing,
Lewd shadows that touched obscenely,
But it was just me.

My mood was off,
They offered you my dowry,
And you turned them down,
Like you were beyond me,
Disdaining to dirty your pretty fingertips,
By touching me…

Oh you were careful enough not to offend,
But your breath was sour from the wine,
And the drums were piercing my brain,
With rude thunder that made me feel,
As though I was going to drown,
In a sea of too much noise.

Mim tried to placate me,
With her soft voice,
But I was irreproachable-
The ceremonial dagger on your hip,
Shone like a jewel in the night…

I couldn’t take my eyes off it.
Its amatory beauty attracted me,
The cold steel seemed so wanton,
I couldn’t defer my desire,
To see it sheathed in warm flesh…

It’s true you know-
What they say;
Parting is such sweet sorrow-

Especially the sweet part…

Excellently done Reindeer. You wove your sixteen words so precisely that no one would know it was a challenge. And that I guess is the challenge of doing one of these pieces. A lot of times when people try word challenges they force the words. Yours are clearly unforced, but flowing. ~ Sara
