Before It’s Too Late…

Today I thought of you,
In your crowded world,
Of too many people,
And too much noise,
Life wild and fierce-
A drum beats there,
One I can not keep pace with…

I wonder how you will find your way here,
In a forest of deep silence and slow growth;
It took centuries for the trees to grow here,
And eons for the mountain to rise so high,
That the clouds flow through you,
When you stand on the mountain side…

Can you imagine what is like love,
To see birds fly below you?
To smell life and the earth all around you…
To feel the strength of the earth flow in your veins,
And know you are part of this world…

Life moves at its own pace here,
Nothing is hurried or rushed,
Eat when you are hungry,
Sleep when you are tired,
There are no rules here,
To tell you when it is time,
To work, to live, to love…

I wonder how you will fare here,
When you come from your busy world-
Will you be bored?
Will you miss that wild race?
That maddening pace?

Why not come here and rest now,
Before you are worn and old,
Let us follow the gentle brook,
On this narrow path,
That leads to the heavens,
Let us lie here awhile,
And count the stars…
If we lose count we can start again-

I will teach you to listen to the trees,
Show you how to lay your hand on stones,
And hear their stories,
There is no life in your world Love,
Won’t you come here and live?

We can lie among the wild mustard and sage brush,
Watch the rabbits bring their young to the spring,
To take a drink,
We can live here in this lovely forest,
Where the wind whispers at night,
Lulling you to sleep,
Where the moon rises like a Goddess,
All aglow in a silver gown….

Ah hear me love,
Calling you here,
Leave your palace of steel and muddy bricks,
Your need to be recognized among Man-

There are treasures here that can’t be locked in safes,
Or valued by men with dollar signs in their eyes.
This is my world love,
A place so beautiful it will make your heart ache,

Come now,
Come now,
Before it’s too late…

Reindeer,

I moved about a year ago from the stressful life of a U.S. city to the beautiful countryside of a small village in Portugal. It's the best thing I've ever done for my mind, body and spirit. I feel very blessed and fortunate and am really now "experiencing" life for the first time in my life.

Your world is a magnificent one and you've expressed it so well in this invitation that one would be foolish to resist.

Peace,
Joseph

The rarefied art of gentle persuasion... very nice write, Retta. Best to keep this location a secret in these dark days of rapacious appetites.

"To see birds fly below you? "

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, Retta, between the picture and its perfectly spoken poem, I'm quite completely collapsed. I dream of, ache for a place like this. 'Bored?' Not a chance. That line up there began the tears. What saddens me is to think that it could remain fantasy, when I know it DOES exist... evidenced by your picture.

If I'm lucky, at least one read in AD glues itself to my deepest core, my soul... you have done that today, dear heart. This is beyond wondrous! katy xox p.s. If you ever lose track of it, I'll have it in my library. (smile)

It's so sad that so many don't realize they are caught up in lives laid out before them, and so true that someday it will be too late to break free. Wake up everyone!!! We were not created to serve, We were created to be free. Wonderful write! Pierre

I have to agree with everyone: it doesn't matter to me who the poem is written for, I want to hop on the first plane I can get ... the fastest one!

Here's the best for me:

" ... I will teach you to listen to the trees,
Show you how to lay your hand on stones,
And hear their stories ... "

Fabulous!

Silence is scary to a man that has been in the city. This is a fantastic write that brings nature to the reader in the peaceful way it displays itself if we take the time to enjoy it. Great write.
