Hopeless Dreams

There was a time in the distant past,
When I had a thirst for love,
I walked in the dark green beauty of my forest,
Longing for one to call my name,

He never came.

The night was brutal,
In the darkness I often saw his face,
Soft black eyes and his blade held high,
A man with honor and the strength to save me,

To give me hope to live out my days…

It was a fanciful dream,
Filled with careless Gods,
That fought for dominion over my world,
With each strike upon the anvil of my life…

I grew thinner and wary of all men.

The land has grown barren around me,
And great clouds of dust has soured the sweet wind,
I once breathed in,
I stand alone now upon this mountain,

Choking on life…

Duty requires me to live,
To persevere,
To fulfill this contract I signed all too long ago,
But ah,

How deeply I long to love and be loved.

I guess that is what we all long for - to love and be loved again.
Sometimes we are lucky and find the right person; other times we have to walk alone a long and dark way.
Can relate to this one very well.
Stay strong.

... Sounds to me like panning for gold, Retta... life has an awful lot of dross to be sifted before the one perfect nugget of great price is revealed... may it be all the better for the waiting! :)) Soulful and emotionally raw without being anything but gleaming and crystal in itself - as only you can do with the natural purity of voice that you have in your elemental and fully integrated writes. TY and bless you, Kate xx

I see a lighted candle of hope in the "Hopeless Dreams", despite
its fading light of creative emotion to recognize the soul's mission: LIVE TO CREATION ON A CREATIVE BLISSFUL LIVING.

Through the lines of "Hopeless Dreams" One can find the
igniting tools of the soul's turbines. It seems that the
REVERSE PSYCHOLOGICAL starter strikes the dynamo of rebirth
here; (Whether it was intentional or not.) and,
this poem has paid its dues to Poetry.

I salute You, Poet!

"With each strike upon the anvil of my life." Reindeer, you beat this poem out of raw emotion and turned it into something of value for your den friends. This poem pours out molten truths, truths of many who are longing to love and be loved. Perhaps this is also how the buffalo felt when the white man slaughtered them and trust died in the blood wars with them. You never know when a blacksmith is going to come knocking at your door and ask you if you have a cup of steel! Might just come blowin' in one day and blow off your door hinges!

As always you go so deep into emotions familiar to me. I can relate to this poem (I guess many can) and I feel that you have read my mind (of past)and you and I have lived the same dream.
This work of excellence has touched me in a sad part of my heart.'Contracts are made to be broken' as well as kept.
Longing needs no contract to take a first step to anywhere else,go on,I dare you to run toward a 'sweet' new 'wind.'
Happy New Year and thank you for your beautiful poetry which I love to read.
Hugs and best wishes always
from
Kay.

I agree with Sherry below in entirety,it is when we discover we have all we ever need within us, or as Jesus The Nazerene said, " The Kingdom of God is Within US ", that love will suddenly appear Retta !
However, we only need to have complete self love for ourselves, to be fulfilled and content in this world !
Thaty is the nub of the equation !

Just when we think that the fire within our heart has burned out, along comes someone who stirs the embers and rekindles the flame. As long as you allow yourself to believe in love and also know within your soul that you are strong enough to walk your path alone, love will find you. It is always when we learn that we don't NEED someone to love us that they amazingly appear. May 2006 bring you the person that you so deeply crave but remember that love is a gift that we give to ourself and no one else can ever save us from, or fill the void caused by, a lack of self-love. Happy New Year, Reindeer!
Take care,
Sherry

The most natural of all desires.
But just think of all the rows you've not had. The tea pots not thrown.
Seriously, there is some bloke thinking the very same.
Never ever fear rejection. Take a chance and go grab the life you choose. The one your heart is yearning for. The one his is too.

Reindeer the bittersweet mood set in this gem of a poem arouses the emotions that we all feel who have yet to find that love that is right for us. I'd rather be alone than to have a mate I can't tolerate. Some people live together out of habit, others even out of hate. It's sad. Beautiful poem with thoughts to ponder.Happy New Year!

Eileen

The brave brave in your dreams may be an illusion, but there is the definite possibility that he walks, head held high, looking for someone to bestow all that he is upon you. I hearken back to something someone told me long, long ago as I lamented the fact that there were no women it seemed for me in this life. They took my hand, smiled, and said, "Have you ever thought that you set too high an ideal for this woman to live up to?" I never answered that question with any satisfaction, but I diid find my true love. Yours is out there, too, looking for you, Reindeer.
