A Challenge Poem at Fireside, to use the following words in a poem:

Shamed, ignore, shining, recluse, petulant, misplaced, tawdry, uncaring, match, evergreen, trust, silken, froth, music, painting, malevolent

Poem Artwork

In An Evergreen Forest

I sit on my mountain,
On top of the world,
In an evergreen forest,
Haunted by a dark moon,
Looking down on the tawdry city below,
Uncaring and malevolent-
Ignore the lies that pour from its silken lips,
Its hate no match for my own,
My eyes shining like the sun in Van Gogh’s painting…

Froth pouring from the lips of man,
Spouting words I have learned not to trust,
Sweet music I refuse to hear,
Like a petulant child,
I turn away,
And close my ears…

I am not shamed for shutting out,
The lies it sings so proudly,
Misplaced pride of man,
Ruining the glory of love,
Thinking they shall laugh in its face,
Only to discover they have fallen from grace,
Now lay in rotting sewers,
Nothing was worthy enough to save…

Shall never regret leaving that place below,
I live as a recluse in this lovely place,
Where time moves so slow,
Watching as your world disappears without a trace…

You did well with your word supply, Rhetta, and told a story that's far too true in many places. Jerry

Well done. Your imagery of the 'green' reminds me of home. Glad to see another who knows its beauty.

Another great poem Reindeer, deep, I don't like cities either though I don't live in the wild. I love trees, I would hate to live in a place with no trees. Jackie <> <
