Final Journey


I’m ready now,
To lay you down,
Kiss your smooth brow,
And send you on your way…

I will place some gifts here for you,
In case you have need,
Though some may say,
Those days have forever gone away…

I will dip my flask,
In the cool stream,
In case you get thirsty,
And need a drink,
To refresh your strength…

I will make fresh bread,
Just the way you always liked it,
And wrap some meat,
In a deer-hide pouch,
In case this final journey,
Finds you weak…

I will wrap my shawl,
Around your shoulders,
In case the North Winds,
Began to blow,
And you find yourself
Becoming cold…

I will place a gentle kiss,
On your forehead,
And whisper words of love,
To shore up your heart,
In case it needs a reminder,
Of how much you were loved…

How much I wish,
We were traveling this road together,
But I shall lay my staff,
By your side to lean on,
In case you become weary,
And I am not there,
To hold you up…

I’m ready now,
To let you go on,
Though my heart is breaking,
And it is your face,
I keep seeing in the ripples,
Reflecting off the gentle pond…

I never thought this day would come,
But the sun is fading fast,
