Interesting, Edward! Obviously, it's difficult for me to think anything but Mandela coming to your work at this time, but the principle and metaphor is probably equally applicable to Mandela as, although hugely politically active, he was also kept alive on account of his inner life and motive vivendi - which also applies to the philosopher. And, like Mandela, in this oh-so material world we live in, philosophy has become something of an existential luxury and peripheral to the otherwise gods of tangible power and success. Good work and thank you for your comments on mine. For an English girl, my handle on 'proper' language application is probably a bit wayward! :) xx

I sure hope more people read this and comment––it's simply brilliant! You had me thinking down through the ages of all the philosophical people who were persecuted and tormented for their anti-theist thoughts, often leading later to great discoveries. And then, in the end, you point out what almost every prisoner in jail proclaims, “Believe me, I'm innocent.”
