Today a tapestry was woven
That linked past and present and future
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
By a young black man
Whose own life and achievements
Were made possible by
By a Great Movement led
By Martin Luther King, Jr.
And millions more here
And across the land
And around the world.
People honor words
History honors deeds
Providence honors courage.
The Dream that we all
Remember so well
When King spoke of character
And content was
Never more clear
The need never more certain
The moment was never
More propitious.
People praise
History records
Providence rewards.
His was a call to Courage
Not to Dreams
His was a call to March
Not to watch
His was a call to Overcome
The remaining obstacles
The old hatreds
The new barriers.
People keep faith
With the past
People stand taller
With courage
Providence alone
Judges our actions.
History does not need another war, unfortunately it is not up to me but the hand that rules the cradle of justice. The men that have gone before us sacrificed so much, for us to see not to rule with an iron fist!
Yes, as president, Obama has many opportunities to shine. He also has many opportunities in the form of pitfalls to avoid. The dilemma of chemical weapons in Syria reminds me of Kennedy facing off with the Soviet Union over ABMs in Cuba. Scary stuff.
