Reservations are for Dreamers

There was a time when a lark sang
a soul stirred
a heart skipped its beat
and peace surrounded us--
The perturbations of love.
We knew the moment
we lived the part
We drank the wine.
Now those days are gone
and what was meant to be
faded into a wistful
reality devoid of
your sensual charms
our expectations
and the vibrant
ticking of time.
I look to the stars
for respite and
they only remind me
of your eyes
your smile
and your breath upon
my face.
I walk along the beach
and now I stub my toes
where once I only
floated as I felt
your charms.
This too shall pass
the poet reminds me
But this time
those words are lost
in the ocean's roar
and in the mighty clap
of thunder
that reminds me
to find another
place.
This one is taken--
Reservations are
for dreamers.

Such a melancholy picture you've drawn that is well represented by the graphic you chose. I love it when a poem is so moody.

I agree reservations are for dreamers and perfect spots where we don't trip and fall, well, sometimes we find a soft place to fall on, and that is love, nicely penned dear Edward, thank you for sharing your talent with me today

It is really hard to take the place of the great poets, but you are getting closer with this soulful release of words stumbling along the beach for perhaps, the last time.

I enjoyed this poem. I think many can relate. The partners may change, but the dance continues.

A faithful glow floating above a gray-weathered landscape, where layers of storm and remnants of love's flotsam remain which can never be destroyed, for love is designed to experience the man or woman and then... await the next iteration of passion's restlessness.

A beautiful and inspiring write, Ed. Bravo!
