Since I started living by the power of consciousness I have found value in everything, most especially information in the news and criticism and sarcasm from persons in my world. I use what I find to enrich my story. Incorporating these things into my story I create my inner life and subsequently my external reality. Significant to the news, criticism and sarcasm are the negative beliefs and negative programming supporting them, leading their devotion to the limitations they highlight. I let these three entities attract my attention so I can see where I am functioning and what I might consider revising.

These entities are valuable to me because I recognize the programming and beliefs they signify. Negativity, limiting and criticizing is the American way – really the world’s way of being and doing, and has been the means people use in their efforts to rule any who allow it – believing they are right to exercise dominion over others. Shaming is a form of criticism and humiliation – ways people try to control others. I mention shaming because of popular forms being expressed in the media these days – fat shaming, body shaming, hair shaming, etc. These entities with their infinite variations are so well programmed into the thinking of people – they so easily let it rip, whether out of the mouth or in a tweet. And these things will continue until we awaken to the ability to deprogram anything programmed in our thinking and use new ideas to reprogram the mind.

Deprogramming and reprogramming is individual but is achieved in relationships of all sorts. My progress became evident when I noticed my reactions to things people said and did – whether in my home or in a foreign land on the other side of the world – and recognized how automatically I had reacted. My programming with negativity, limitation and criticism prompted quick and often decisive reactions. Whether I exercised my first amendment rights to react verbally or not, as long as I am caught up in this programming, I carry out my reaction in the conversations in my mind – my inner conversations. I realized I was continually caught up in this programming until I consciously deprogrammed and reprogrammed my thinking with elevated emotions. It did not matter how often others tried to get me to change my attitude or watch what I said, no change came until I changed my programming.

I changed my programming with persistent practice, contemplating concepts from the higher range of consciousness until I generated corresponding feelings and made new decisions about persons, places and things in my reality. From the Hawkins map of consciousness I distinguished concepts in higher and lower consciousness, consciously selecting feelings I wanted to generate. I looked at a situation, noticed my reaction and asked, “Is this how I want to feel about this?” I am one who does not like the bad feelings that come up in negativity and limitation, and it was easy to see my reactions – bad feelings – registered something I did not like. My response was simple, “No”, so my next question easily was, “Well what do I want to feel?”

Reviewing the energy chart I derived from the Hawkins map, I saw several feelings I preferred. So it was a straightforward matter of choosing a concept that reflected that feeling. A news item got my attention, representing threats to national security. I chose joy and serenity; the general feeling with threats is fear. I was already programmed for fear; I chose to reprogram my mind for joy and serenity. I asked, “What would I need to know in order to generate feelings of serenity and joy?” Immediately came a concept from the Psalms, “The thoughts and plans of man are of no effect”. Right away I felt a sense of relief.
