Anyone unfamiliar with the case of Georgia death row inmate Troy Anthony Davis and police officer Mark Allen MacPhail is likely to find him- or herself becoming very familiar with it before the year 2009 comes to an end.

Why? Because in August 1989 Officer MacPhail was murdered and Davis was then later convicted for the crime and sentenced to death. Only Davis was not executed and with the help of family, friends, and organizations around the globe, has been fighting nonstop to clear his name and preserve his life.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to make a decision on whether or not new developments in the case––such as seven out of nine witnesses recanting their original testimonies––were sufficient enough to warrant a second trial. However, amidst the increasingly voluminous worldwide hue and cry of public interest, the nation’s highest court decided it would review the case after it reconvenes in September.
