The NHS - get healthy and we'll need less of it - not more! 11/5/2009 2:10:33 AM
Should a health service be judged by how many sick people they can process, or according to how healthy we are? (rom 19th August, 2009)
I have been bubbling over about this ever since witnessing ridiculous competition a week ago between British Labour and Conservative Party spokespersons arguing about which of them was going to spend more money on the NHS. Really!
What I would like to see is somebody getting up there and saying that they intend to focus the National Health Service upon improving the health of the nation, rather than designing it to thrive upon our sickness and disease. Then, once they have improved the health of the nation, they can proudly shut down hospitals and care homes, make doctors and nurses redundant, and pat themselves on the back for a job well done.
My last book, Uncommon Sense - the State is Out of Date, shines some much needed light upon the consequences of having a health service that thrives upon disease and a police force that thrives upon crime.
