Is there any limit to how many targets the U.S. Dept of Homeland Security needs to protect? The architects of the War on Terror must be very pleased with themselves. Few start-up organizations could ever dream of such accelerated growth. I just quote a few statistics from Dissident Voice in 11th January's New Statesman. The figures really speak for themselvs. In 2003 the USA Department of Homeland Security began compiling their list of potential terrorist targets across America.This is how the numbers grew as the fear was fuelled:
2003: 160
2004: 28,000
2005: 77,000
2006 300,000
I wonder if they have yet considered adding to the list all those catering establishments across the nation that offer pork products on their menu?
This is a classic example of organizations set up by the state to deal with a problem, which themselves thrive upon the propagation and management of same problem - something dealt with at length in my first book, Uncommon Sense - the State is Out of Date.
As I say in the chapter titled A Terminal Toolbag, "How many examples do we have of these bodies set up to eliminate a problem, actually eliminating it, shutting down their operations and going home?"
