My nom de plume Safi Abdi is actually a shortened form of my real name. My bio pic. is me looking out from my balcony window. Someone commented that I (being a Muslim woman) was perhaps forced not to look at the camera?That's a terrible misconception, and education is long overdue.
I am a Muslim woman who is very comfortable in her skin. To me Islam is the way I choose to run my daily life. It is a state in which I find complete happiness and security. I pray that I live and die in that state. To me Islam means the conscious acknowledgement of our Maker's absolute supremacy over all things; my ultimate goal being the complete adaptation of my poor needy self to the Lord's perfect Plan and Riches. This requires that in all my dealings I put our Lord's perfect wisdom before that of my own flawed desires, so as to be one with the moon, the stars and all the blessed beings that say without hesitation: Glory to You! You are indeed our Lord, and we do hear and obey!
The most import thing for me is to do the best I can. So, if and when I tail off, which is quite often, I prod myself to start all over again, and never give in to despair, so here I am once again, O Lord!
And oh! How I love to disillusion folks who think Muslim women are soulless creatures who are just as hollow as the veil they wear! My fellow humans, that's an unreasonable accusation. Muslim women are not alien creatures who somehow are different from the rest of humanity. They too have feelings, aspirations, they hurt, they laugh, they cry and basically do everything a human being does. And yes, they too are blessed with a brain and a will of their own and are quite capable of figuring things out for themselves.
My appreciation of God began only after I did my own sums, and that goes for everyone, be they a male or a female. Any man who thinks otherwise, be he Muslim or non Muslim, is simply succumbing to his own ego.
Well, thanks for reading this, and please don't shy away from new ideas and confrontations when dealing with me. You are most welcome with your rants, and whatever other arrows you might want to level at me, but don't you ever take me for someone else's shadow who doesn't know what she is doing.
