After many years and 10 books of essays on travel, religion, spirituality, contemporary living, culture, and the human condition, I have taken to writing poetry. A student recently asked me to read a couple of her poems. I begged off, telling her that I wasn't an expert on poetry and had never written a poem in my life. But she insisted. I agreed on the terms that I was an avid reader and would be able to give her a reasonable reader reaction to her work. After all, writing is intended for readers and not necessarily specialists. I read her two poems which were surprisingly good and I gave her some honest feedback intended to help her improve.
But that sent me thinking and a few days later, I had an idea for a poem that I simply had to write. As the days went on recently, I wrote a few poems which I have posted here on Authors Den. To make matters worse, I have started to write poetry in my dreams, forgetting them upon awakening, but writing other poems during the day. Where this is coming from, I have no idea. As they say in the Middle East where I live, only God knows. However, I intend to "go with the flow" and graciously accept what is given to me.
