A 19-year Old Father Who Never Gave Up And What His Daughter Has To Say 9/20/2006 3:53:14 PM
( A essay written by 16-year old Christina Lofton about her father who raised her and brother James as a single father)
REPRINTED WITH PERMISSION FROM HER FATHER
"So did you get the results yet?" Asked my father anxiously.
"Yes, I'm pregnant", answered my mother, with a depressed look.
What most men would have done at this point is walk out and leave the woman with the baby. But my 19-year old dad at the time chose to take on the resonsibility. I choose my father for the person I most admire because he's responsibile, caring and a hardworker.
Having to quit school, get a job and face all the challenges needed to be faced. My father accepted the responsibility and is now one of the most successful men alive. While me and my brother were still babies, him and my mother were going through problems. In the end my dad was left with the responsibility of two babies.
Though very challenging my father managed to work two jobs, take us to daycare without a car, and put a hot meal into our bellies every night. It's very rare you see a man who raises two children.
In order to get a good job and fulfill his dream goal, my father decided to enroll back into college. By this time my brother and I were a little bit older. For instance, everyday we would get up, take the bus to school, and my father would take the bus to work. After work he would pick us up and take us to his college, where we would wait patiently for him to finish.
Who do you know that would handle all of this? In the end my father finished college with flying colors and is now a nurse. Also, the head of his department.
Overall my father is very responsible and hardworking. He is the person I most admire."
