Blogs by L. G. Figgins Spring Has Sprung 3/3/2005 5:18:21 PMIt was a glorious day. The sun was warming and white puffs of cumulus clouds drifted in an azure sky. The birds could not contain their excitement. Even the standoffish neighborhood dogs were content to sit and warm themselves without barking. The air smells of earth. I raked my flower beds and the thatch in the yard in preparation for planting and re-seeding the yard and removed all the dead branches from the perennials. I leave leaves(cute!) on the beds over the winter to keep the bulbs from heaving, but they have to be removed as they're a favorite hiding place for nasty slugs.....I remember when we lived in Kent, Washington(which has to be the slug capital of the world)they would actually squeeze under the patio door into the house! yech! Most people kept geese there to gobble them up. Mind you, this was before the mini-marts and gas stations that now have invaded the area. We lived right on the edge of Maple Valley, the perfect name for a beautiful area. There were horses on acreage. It's homogenized now. I despair what's happening to the American landscape.
