I cannot believe it is already September. The warm weather, by that I mean Nebraska's usual really hot weather, did not show up. We only had a few days of dry hot winds. Other hot days had humidity in the high 50s and low 60s. Believe me, that's humid for here.
On one particular day in August it only got up in the low 60s and I had to wear jeans and a sweater. The next day it was in the 80s and today, when it should be getting cooler, it was in the high 90s. Ah, as in other places, a favorite saying here is "If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes. It will change." I'd like to add another favorite saying of mine to that. "If the wind ever stopped blowing we'd all fall over!"
We have managed to finish my "Rubber Room" in the garage. My favorite hobby is rubber stamping and I am now a demonstrator for Stampin' Up, a home and workshop sales plan. I really do believe in my product because I have been using their stamps for years. I find stamping very relaxing and it allows me to be as creative as I feel at the moment. In addition, I can hand create cards for family and friends that are one-of-a-kind works of art and gifts. Sure, I use the stamps, but I also add elements of collage, choose my own color schemes, mix and match papers, embellishments and so on. It's really fun.
Anyway, I have so many craft supplies, so much sewing paraphenalia and books about my hobbies we decided to use a small room in the garage for my craft and sewing room. As it contains so many stamps, and rubber to make my own very simple ones, I decided it would be called the Rubber Room. I am going to make a sign to hang on the door that proudly declares it's name.
Our daughter and son do not like the title. Our daughter said it sounds like some kind of kinky room and our son says it sounds like I go out there when I need to be alone, like in an asylum. He's not too far off on that one. It is peaceful and stress relieving. There is a great big window right in front of my work counter so I can get good light and watch the squirrels, rabbits, birds, butterflies and neighbors as they go by. They, however, cannot see me so all go on about their business quite normally.
If my husband, Skip, comes out to the garage we can share time together without actually being in the same room. He does his thing and I do mine. In the winter there is a big, old fashioned wood-burning stove we use to heat the place. It smells grand and really does a good job, especially if we set up one of the fans. I also have a small oil-filled radiator that runs all the time in the winter to keep my room above freezing so the stamps and inks aren't harmed.
Right now we are concentrating on getting the rock garden completed, rain guttering on the house and a back deck built so we don't have to use such a tiny back step. The one we have now is only about 24" wide by 12" long. I think the deck is going to be either 8' by 8' or 8' by 12'. We will add on to it later.
