Prevention of Writer's Block Hi all. Well, I'm very happy to report that the Malaysian novel I've been frantically working on since visiting Singapore and Malaysia last August has been completed and is through the publishing process at Booksurge LLC. I highly recommend booksurge as they do an excellent job and immediately (and I mean immediately - Khadijah was for sale on Amazon within a few days after I ok'd the galley.) The retail price is also very affordable for readers unlike the retail price at several other well known POD's. Amazon gets the book to readers within days too - expedited to Canada.
I no sooner finished Khadijah and was trying to finish my novel on Alaska (Alaska Now) that I put aside in my enthusiasm for the vibrant culture of Malaysia when it was suggested to me to write a novel or creative non-fiction book on a part of the world in my own back yard (Maillardville, B. C. ) as part of the upcoming celebration of B.C. (British Columbia) becoming a colony. So now I am continuing to multi-task.
As far as writer's block I never seem to experience it and suggest to writers that do that they are likely too worried about what others will think of their writing. Just do your best and try and get through to a draft. The book can always be polished then but at least you have a completed draft to work on. I think for most people their writing gets better as they do it. And with POD you can always go back and correct anything that someone points out to you or do a second edition if you want to change or update a lot of stuff.
I never have the problem of what to write about either. I suggest travel which stimulates the mind no end or reading about psychological or sociological issues. There is no shortage of fascinating things to write about.
Going to rush out now, the sun is out here in the Vancouver Lower Mainland and pick up some books, oral interviews on Maillardville. It fits in with some of my favorite topics - Colonialism, robber-barrons, the state of the ordinary person in a globalized world. Maybe I can even make the novel funny. I like to do that with serious themes. I also have to jog my Rottweiler, Bella, a big teddy-bear, around the local park. Not for her benefit but for my own. Jogging pulls down the blood sugar level.
Write on all you writers and enjoy their efforts all you readers.
