One viewers recap of week 1...
The show starts with Ryan living in a utility closet, escaping through a window as good ole' Sandy Cohen attempts to find him. Ryan ends up at a hotel where he's greeted by the deceased Marissa's mother, who delivers an average at best, "It's about time you showed up". Haven't we seen this episode this before with a guy named Luke?

Jump back 36 hours...

The Cohens are a mess because Ryan has left them. Apparently they lead incredibly boring lives because it has been 5 months since he left and they still seem as though they can't function without their Ryan in their lives.

As they pan through the kitchen, you catch a glimpse of Kirsten, but no bottle in her hands. It's close though, you know it is (wait until week 3).

The best way to descibe Ryan's new job is "rag boy" at a bar, where nearby he fights at night. He doesn't appear to be very good at either job. During the day he's constantly hassled as rag boy and then at night gets his ass kicked so bad he forgets to take the money owed to him. Sandy Cohen may be a bright man, but he was wrong, Ryan is clearly not college material.

So Seth calls Summer, who is now going to school at Brown (apparently once you enroll in Brown you are also enrolled in Green Peace) and decides to come home to help non-stoned Seth (wait until week 3 when he smokes another puff off his one joint). The "plan" is to create a comic book presentation that shows how important Ryan is to the family. This is the most unbelievable idea in the world, the only thing more unbelievable is that it works. Personally if you're going to go to this length they should have splurged for a laser pointer, but that's just me.

Ryan decides to come home after one more fight (of course) in which he pulls a Rocky and actually wins, and then ends up meeting recently deceased Marissa's mom at deceased Marissa's grave where he takes information on where his arch nemises Volchok is. Predictable, but necessary (wait for week 3).

My predictions for the season:

Ryan kills Volchok by choking him with the very rag he was using to clean the bar with from week 1. Sandy has to represent him. Kirsten starts drinking again. Seth has another hit off of his joint. Summer? Who cares. She hasn't brought anything to the show. I hope she wins this year's "person who has to die during sweeps week" lottery.
