Last week while shopping in Albertson's, I went to the pharmaceutical isle to get a bottle of 81 Mg. aspirin. I am one of those individuals who believe one of these little pills a day is a good thing. Much to my amazement, they had a new package: 'Bayer Sugar-Free Asprins'. I found myself getting a tad annoyed! Ok, I'll be more honest, I was seething! What to heck did they mean? You know what I'm talking about, using that weight conscience hook! Surely, it's their new marketing ploy to get me to buy their brand? Why didn't they just acquiesce to the new trend and call them Bayer ZERO!
Getting entirely too intense, I thought, why is the word 'sugar-free' on the package? How important is it that I know which aspirins are sugar free? And if the other have sugar, why in the world would they put sugar in a pill? Who loads extra calorie in a itsy-bitsy-tiny pill that only takes a second to swallow? I have never entertained the idea that I'll have a aspirin for dessert! And MORE IMPORTANTLY, if this pill is now sugar free, does that mean they're using Aspartame or Splenda to replace the sugar? By the way, how many calories are we talking about in the original aspirins anyway? After all, there hasn't been a label clarifying the calorie and nutritional level! WHY Oh why must aspirin have any sweetener in them at all?
Now drenched in my annoyance, I went over the edge when I realized that the new improved 'sugar free' aspirin cost more than the others! Quickly I pilfered through my purse looking for my glasses to read the itsy-bitsy box print to figure out why they would charge more for something that now has less ingredients. Unfortunately, I left my glasses at home.
Okay, maybe I am over reacting a bit. But I am sensitive when it comes to sugar, or anything that totes the word calories on it. Weight has been a issue I have fought all my life. Taking a few breaths, I finally chilled out and giggled as I reframed this whole irritating moment. Maybe just maybe this extra weight I'm carrying is from all of my years of taking aspirins! Yep, that's it, today I will start taking my new 'sugar free aspirins' . . . surely the weight will start melting away <wink>.
