From a conversation with a distinguished radio host
Two days ago I took part in a radio interview on BBC Radio Sheffield about my latest book, a non-fiction, The Mysterious World of the Human Genome. My host, the distinguished Rony Robinson, took me slightly aback, not on air but in one of the breaks when other announcements were made over the air waves, by asking me about my earlier books. He had interviewed me on the publication of my crime thriller, Goodbye Baby Blue, which was the first ever thriller to be based in the city of Sheffield, and which was published many years ago.
So what do I feel about books published many years earlier. Do I still think about them? Do I care if they are still in print? Am I still proud of them?
The answer is yes - I very much care about them. Writers feel somewhat about books as a mother might feel about children. You never stop caring about them. I was curiously reminded of all this when I was informed by Amazon com that a kindle copy of Goodbye Baby Blue sold to some unknown reader (unknown to me, not Amazon) in America yesterday. You wouldn't believe how much that matters to me and how I hope the reader will enjoy reading it.
I readily admit that I felt a surge of pride rise in my breast. ,
