The African Americans’ Silent Majorities 3/27/2008 11:49:57 AM
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago is preaching the same gospel as the Prophets in the Old Testament, and John the Baptist in the early Christian days. For those who have not read the Bible, or have forgotten, these men were not popular with the leaders of their days, nor is Rev. Wright today.
John the Baptist was beheaded for his comments, Jesus was crucified for what He preached, and Rev. Wright is being crucified by the media for his preaching. If Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel, Prophets of old were living in these days, the media would be attacking them the same way as they are attacking Rev. Wright.
I know what you are thinking, how can you compare Rev. Wright with the Prophets of old? Well, there are similarities in these men messages. Rev. Wright preached about America turning its back on God and its citizens. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel preached about Israel turning its back on God and its citizens.
Let’s look at what America has done to its people over the last two or three centuries. It has enslaved African Americans, placed the American Indians on Reservations, placed the Japanese Americans in intern camps, segregated its citizens, and even at one time its most pride possession, its military, was segregated. Segregation even today is considered the law of the land weather you want to accept it or not. Go to Church on Sunday morning and look around.
During the 1960’s, I was in the military, serving in the United States Air Force, defending the United States of America from what I was told the spread of communism. But I had to read or watch on television, dogs attacking African Americans because they wanted to go to white only high schools or white only universities to get an education, or because they refused to sit in the back of public buses, or eat at white only restaurants, sleep at white only hotels or motels. I was born in South Carolina in 1944. I was told to drink only from the colored water fountain, or if I had to go to the restroom, only the one marked, colored. I was not living in South Africa, I was living in America.
Forty years later, how is America treating its citizens? Veterans, military men who served because their leaders started a war or conflict, gave their lives, their limbs for this country, are homeless, cannot get a job, cannot even get medical treatment for Agent Orange, or other war related diseases. America has turned its back on its veterans.
Just look at what is going on in the 2008 Presidential campaign. A battle between black, white, and Hispanic, between rich and poor, between those who have and those who have not. When Barack Obama made his announcement about his campaign for the President of the United States, my family and friends bet that sometime, somewhere down the road, race will become an issue. Every African Americans knew that race, Mr. Jim Crow, will raise it ugly head, and America did not disappointed us.
I have followed this Presidential campaign closer then any in my life time in this country history. I have watched the evening news media get on Barack Obama for being to soft, for not fighting back, for turning the other cheek, and when he does fight back, they called it a nasty campaign. Why is Barack Obama being blame for what Rev. Wright preached? They say he should walk out of the congregation. I would agree if Rev Wright were preaching lies, but we all know he was preaching the truth. America has done wrong things. Who help Fidel Castro overthrow the Cuba government? America. Who help the Shah of Iran come to power in Iran? America. Who help Saddam Hussein come to power and gave him the weapons of mass distruction? America. I can go on and on about governments that America has meddled with because these governments refused to follow the wishes of the American CIA policies.
Just look at the policies of this country over the past fifty years. Check out the history of America foreign policies during the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties. It was of a big bad bully. During what it want when it wanted. The most powerful, riches country on the face of this earth, but instead of helping mankind, America looked at other countries as third world nations. Now we are being looked at as being a member of these third world nations. The American dollar once strong now is weak. You could have spend the American dollar in any country, jungle, or isolated inland on this earth, now no one wants it.
It is about time that America take a good look at it self. When I returned home after serving a year in Asia, I got down on my knees and kiss the ground. I was glad to be back in the United States of America, the land of the big Base Exchange. There is no other country on the face of this planet like America. But, she has her problems. Is it America or is it her policies? I believe it is her policies. America needs to put her citizens first and her foreign policies second. I love this country, but hate its policies of not taking care of its own, of it policy of separation, of Mr. Jim Crow, of treating its citizens as second class.
America is spending trillion of dollars on a war it cannot win. While America infrastructures are falling apart, pot holes in it streets and highways, bridges falling apart, it citizens are going without health care, are being throwed out of their homes, cannot afford to feed their family, their jobs are being outsourced, educational budgets are being cut in every state in the union, corporate CEO's are making million of dollars on the back of its workers. We, the American citizens, elect congressmen and a President to make sure that the Constitution of the United States, and the Declaration of Independence are always enforced.
The Declaration of Independence reads that: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
The Declaration of Independence read "Government are instituted among Men" not "Government are instituted among Corporations". And that is the problem with America policy - Corporations.
