How life Goes...Ya rayeh 1/27/2008 1:03:16 PM
I wrote someone on U-Tube about lyrics to a song Ya rayeh. I love but, it is in french or algerian, so he answered me, and I answered back. First he commented on an artist song that if we only knew the words it would make it much more interesting, so I asked for just a Theme, and to my surprise, it is very similar to what I am going through.
Here it is he wrote back:
Hello there Thanks for the long email and a quite detailed one ))) Ok i stressed that in the song Ya rayeh it is very important to understand the words because its one of those songs where the words matter greatly, unlike many other songs where it's the same old them..man love woman or something. I can't give you the whole translation of it but, I could TRY if you really want ...but it will be my own interpretation of it of course as it is not even in proper arabic but, algerian dialect.
Ok the theme is about mainly a person who is living or doing to live abroad in a country that is not His …I think same as Taha himself ...and it's mainly about advices which the song gives to these people about the life difficulties ...regrets..ect which people before them who experienced such lives give.
The title Ya rayah is how I see it translated as for exmaple . Oh you who is leaving ...departing ...going... (but not as in dating but going abroad)
Thank you for thanking me, and writing back!
You made me cry with your answer because, it's weird how things go in this world, but, I just finished writing my bio in more detail, and it mentions how I am being relocated not due to my own doing but for the reason of helping a family member who is in need of me badly right now, my daughter moved to another state with her children, running from her husband who is ....not good. So I can identify with some of it, the feelings of leaving your home, and getting used to living in a new environment. But, I will make the best of it, it is a town where there are artsy types like myself, won't let it get me down, I am looking forward to springtime, and my daughter already met a nice man she just told me she met him a year ago from a co-worker. He has a big house and no family. She is selling her big house she left too. I'm glad she has a friend to talk to, and someone to hold her when she cries. I'm her mother, of course we confide to each other but, not too personally, after all she has been on her own for fifteen years, she left when she was seventeen by eighteen she married this man I hated, but she would not listen to me, and she married him (9 years older) and moved away. I kept the door open but we became estranged. I knew one day she would leave him so I bit my tongue when it came to him, never saying anything to force her to defend him.
But now he went too far and she got an order of protection! Happy days will be here again!
One door slams shut, and a brighter window opens slowly. I am where I am supposed to be, so I stopped fighting the change, and I think one day I will be happy. I know I'll be okay but, I want to feel happiness again.
I would love to learn algerian, but I'm sure it would be very hard.
Of course a song is subjective like a painting. I don't want to burden you with the words, its okay. I will look him up and read about his life if I can find it. I find him quite interesting.
The singer is great I think his name is Rachid Taha, he moved back to Algeria, I am about to read more about his life, and listen to his interesting voice, and music. Look him up?
