This is one of the best books of its genre that I've read in a long time--had to share this with you. What can be said about a book like Patricia Guthrie's second novel, Waterlilies Over My Grave"? It's stunningly brilliant! The prologue is so cleverly executed--and I don't much like prologues--that upon reading it, not continuing on would be impossible. It’s just that good. This psychological suspense novel, rife with murder and terror, is exquisitely mixed with tender romance and friendship between wonderfully likeable and well-developed characters. Police Psychologist Annie O’Brien, asked to help an uncooperative Mark Driscoll, a detective suffering from burnout over having to shoot a perpetrator, finds herself needing Mark's help to protect her from her deranged ex-husband. Even as Guthrie delves into the mindset of a psychotic stalker with murder on his mind, she examines and portrays the building love of those lives endangered by him. And throughout the book run segments of the hauntingly beautiful poem, Annabelle Lee, by Edgar Allen Poe. As writer and author, I am, foremost, a prolific reader. Many books I enjoy and soon forget. Waterlilies Over My Grave is not among them. This is one of those rare books that the reader will read again . . . and again.
