Hanna came to Southport on Friday night, keeping me up, watching to make sure no trees were falling and no damage to my home.
I finally dozed off around one o'clock on the sofa but woke when I heard the wind howling around the outside of my home. I went on the front porch and sure enough, the topical storm was here. I watched from the porch for a few minutes before getting soaked from the rain being blown onto the porch. I dozed again around five o'clock, listening to the wind howling through the trees and knowing I couldn't do anything, I decided to sleep.
Getting up around six o'clock, I went to the back door to see debris over the backyard but nothing else. I then went to the front porch and the front yard was the same as the backyard. Nothing but debris blown from the wind. We were lucky this time around.
I live close to the marsh, where the Cape Fear River, Intercoastal Waterway, and the ocean come together. At first, I thought it may be showing it's eys at this location, but it didn't. Therefore, I tried to stay up and wait.
Now, I know you think that is crazy to stay up waitng, but that is my makeup. I want to see what is happening and the only way to do it is to watch. I thought I was going to have to do the same thing again in the next week because of Ike, but as of today, it seems to be taking a different path, thank goodness.
Storms don't bother me but a #4 hurrican does and that is when I leave home. When I moved to Southport in 1999 we had three hurricanes that year and I left for Floyd because it was either a #3 or #4. I can't remember which it was,now. I don't like leaving my home unless it is extremely necessary, so I stay and watch.
