Need I say more? Dear Al and Jessie,
I'm writing this short request and reminder because neither of you are very PRO-active. In case you haven't noticed Hurricane Gustav is brewing just south of Cuba and by Monday (9/1/08) it is projected to be about 75 miles due south of New Orleans as a CAT 2 or 3 hurricane. I thought you’d like to be there BEFORE the event this time to lend a hand.
Now...we all know you couldn't make it to the last hurricane party in New Orleans when Katrina hit 3 years ago almost to the day, but there will be no excuses for you two not to be there for the Gustav party because I've spent the whole day putting out the word to help find you and get you two to New Orleans in time for this awesome event of Mother Nature so you may witness and become more educated in the power of 'ol Ma Nature.
She's quite a lady when she gets pissed off and as much as you two blowhards can make hot air, you're still no match for her. Maybe you already know that though and it's the reason the only time we hear from you two is AFTER the proverbial shit hits the fan. That’s called RE-ACTION.
I can understand your reticence about going to New Orleans to watch the water rise to the top of those flimsy dikes. After all, New Orleans does sit 12 feet below sea level and the Corps of Engineers and the $50 billion that has been funneled to New Orleans to build and shore up those dikes in the past 10 years seems to have done no good whatsoever because most of it disappeared to God knows where. However, a great place to watch is from Jackson Square or better yet, The Cafe' Dumond where you can enjoy some Cajun coffee and a fresh Beighnet. My personal favorite is Bananas Foster at Brennan's.
By the way, do you guys know what happened to all those billions of taxpayer dollars that was given to New Orleans from an 'uncaring' government before Katrina hit and since the catastrophe? Maybe Mayor Nagy knows? Maybe the last few mayors before him have an idea of where to look? Maybe while you're enjoying your Cajun coffee and Beighnet someone could tell you? We taxpayers would sure love to know.
In my search for you today I couldn't find you anywhere in Florida after Hurricane Fay blew through making 4 landfalls in FL within 8 days. You were nowhere to be found or heard in GA, AL, MS, SC, NC, or LA. You must have thought the people there didn't need any help, huh? OR...maybe some people just don't bitch about nature's events or try to defend their stupidity for building and living in unsafe places near water. I should talk, huh? Hell, I've got an 800 gallon pond in my backyard that almost went over the banks 10 days ago. Pretty scary!
Having lived through many hurricanes in my life and going through the Midwest Floods in the 90's as a sandbag volunteer and living through Mt. St. Helens erupting when I was less than 100 miles away, I can tell you this...buying a flashlight and 2 D cell batteries is NOT the definition being prepared. What comes to mind here is The 6 P's Theory...Proper Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance! You don't have the dikes so tell your people the best PREPARATION is to get the f*** out of Dodge, NOW !!!
Remember guys...where Mother Nature is concerned, 'safe dikes' is an oxymoron!
