My first time to enter a poetry contest.
Yesterday on Valentine's Day, my phone rang.
"Hello." Joyce speaking.
The caller responede, "This is the Dallas Branch Library. I am phoning to tell you, you won honorable mention for your poem, Three Little Words, in our Valentine's Day Poetry Contest."
GRAND PAUSE...on my end of the line!
All I could think of saying was, "Well, smack my jaws!"
I had completely forgotten I had entered the Valentine's Day Poetry Contest and felt quite humble knowing my poem had garnered any type of prize.
Just wanted you all to know. If you would like to read the poem, it is listed among all my poems. Since it was written last year in 2005, Valentine's Day fell on a Monday. For this contest, I changed Monday fair to Tuesday grace and modified the following sentence.
