You sweetly smiled and said,
“See you around.”
 
I should have asked,
“When…?”
 
…the sun sets scarlet
…the moon rises gold
…the tide returns silver
…the birds greet the dawn
…the trees bleed autumn
…the geese fly south
…the first snow falls
…the lake freezes over
…the winter starts to wane
…the buds begin to swell
…the swallows return
…the lilacs bloom once more
…the summer’s heat shimmers
…the sun dries the oceans
…the stars fall from the sky
…there’s nothing left of this planet
but galactic dust
sifted from angels' hands
sown throughout the universe
and eternity
 
That seems like an awfully long time;
But I can wait
for you.
