Spring Arrivals

Yesterday, I saw three purple fiches newly returned from their winter home. The males looked very smart in their feathers that looked as if they had been dipped in raspberry juice.
We have noticed, over the last few years, a decline in the song-bird population. This means that we are not only seeing fewer bird species in the summer but also not hearing as many beautiful songs.
There is no doubt that the climate is changing. We hear news of unusual weather occurrences all over the world. We have had much less snow this winter, but many other places are having more snow than usual.
We look forward to our returning summer birds, the sight and sound of them gives our spirits a lift. We hope that last year's decline in numbers was just a fluke and that this year we will see and hear our beautiful returning birds.
