Canada Mail is Moving

The postal strike in Canada is over and the mail is moving again.

With the onset of e-mail so many years ago, I normally would not worry about whether the postal workers were on strike or not. However, because I was waiting for a shipment of books to arrive I was anxiously hoping that they would soon be back on the job.

I do sympathize with their problems especially with their wages and pension difficulties, but my problems seemed to be more important to me than theirs was.

They are now back to work and on Thursday of last week a card arrived in my small mailbox at the end of the street to say that my parcel had arrived and it could be picked up the next day.

The next day, July 1st, was a holiday in Canada and so I knew I would not be able to pick them up that day. I could however, pick them up on Saturday as the postal outlet in the local pharmacy would be open.

I went to get them at 9.00 a.m. as written on the card of the opening time on Saturdays. They would not be open until noon. The time had been changed on weekends but not the time on the card.

Another annoying glitch in the delivery system. My books were so close to my hands and yet so far away. With gas being so expensive right now this was something else to complain about! I returned to the postal outlet on Sunday and was able to get my box of books.

Finally, they had arrived. Now I could get on with sending them to their ultimate destinations--local libraries and gift recipients. And now I had assurance of books on hand to sell at my upcoming events.

Gradually my anxiety rose up into a feeling of joy and relief. At last I could enter in to the happiness that completion of my books' publication brings.
