Here is a very common belief concerning the forgiveness of sin. I encourage all to comment on the writing presented here:

"Forgiveness- | All sins, whether “big” or “small” are sins against God, and cause us to be separated from God. But God loves us and He doesn’t want anyone to go to Hell.

That’s why Jesus came to save us. Jesus Christ, died upon the cross to pay the full penalty for our sins, and rose from the dead, so that whoever puts their trust in Him, shall not perish, So we receive God’s forgiveness by placing our trust in Jesus.

If you will sincerely turn from your sins, and ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord of your life, He will come into your heart, save you, forgive you, and give you eternal life. We are saved by what Jesus has done for us on the cross, not by anything that we can ever do (Ephesians 2:8–9, Titus 3:4–7, Galatians 2:16). We are saved and forgiven the moment we place our trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Obedience and good works don’t have any saving merit. We are saved by grace alone. But obedience and good works are evidence that we are saved."
