Many people suffer from addictions today. Big surprise below- I was watching the story of Scott Weeman on Journey Home yesterday and it dawned on me that most addicts are not alone in their trials and tribulations.
It is clear to me that we ALL have addictions. Alcohol, drugs, porn, adultery, stealing, gambling, and, just thought of, Sin. We all sin every day and some are addicted to certain types of sin. The main thing is that we all need help from others to help us control sin.
I remember going to confession in grade school and each month the same sins were confessed. It was like a repeat of the prior month. Now as a grown adult, it seems we all have certain sins that we are prone to commit.
The main difference between, say a drug addict and us other group of sinners, is that the drug addict has an immediate negative to deal with. Unlike us, who may be unaware of the negative we are building up in our Separation from God.
I heard the story of the frog that is oblivious to the water temperature when it is increased 1 degree each day. The water can get so hot that the frog is near death but the frog is unaware of the pending doom.
Our souls may be in a similar situation. Our venial sins slowly build up as we become accustomed to a certain life style or sin. Slowly, we may progress to Mortal sins and the separation from God increases. We may be unaware that it is actually happening to us.
Fortunately, we have many tools at our disposal to help us Return to God. A well formed Conscience, Confession, Repentance, Jesus Christ Sacrifice on the Cross for us, the Sprinkling of His Precious Blood and, last but not least, the Holy Eucharist.
Please read my article titled, The Remission of Sin. Follow those 4 steps and it is my fervent prayer that each one of us will have Life returned to our soul. Jesus gave us those Words in John 6:51-68 that He meant Literally.
