Forgiving Others- 1/2/2022 11:39:05 AM
We are encouraged to forgive others that harm or do negative things to us. My studies brought to light a very interesting situation. Imagine someone violates our space in such a way that we find it very hard to forgive them.
An example would be a home invasion with intent to commit robbery. Things escalate to where someone in the family is killed. One would not be faulted for not forgiving the perpetrator. This may fall under the sin of Omission. This person did not commit a sin of commission but may be expected to show forgiveness. This person commits the sin of omission since they did not forgive.
Now, here is the hard part to accept. Since God is all Merciful, if the perpetrator has remorse and regrets his actions, if this is sincere, there is a chance he will be forgiven by God.
The victims of this crime, including all family members involved, cannot forgive this crime. They may be sinning under the Sin of Omission. Imagine this may be an example of the perpetrator receiving Forgiveness from God but the victims may be punished for their inability to forgive.
Forgiveness must be practiced in all situations if one wants to cover all the bases.
