Steven, I really like the way you wove a couple of homonyms through this poem. In the first stanza, with skittering leaves and Summer leaving. Then again in the last line: "The fall will be the rise of you and me." I have to admit though, I needed to look up susurrus in the dictionary. Cool word. I like it. When I first saw it, it made me think of tsooris...which is Yiddish for worries.
I had to drive down to South Florida on Friday. Strangely fall hit early along the highway. We usually don't see the leaves change until Christmas time. It was very surreal to come out of a hurricane smack into fall.
