Vicarious living

Here's to that one moment in time
when you knew what you wanted
and you thought you had it
A moment frozen in time
hidden deep in denial

Perspectives slowly changed
suddenly you woke up to find yourself
stuck in reality

Here's to your dreams
that were once so close
but now they seem stuck
deep down the crevice
of lifes pictorial butt
Time makes a mockery
of youth idealism
And takes a piss on
grand (delusions) plans and plotted courses

Here's to you,
that have been eating away at life
like a zombie neatly folded into the line
With pay-per view glasses
you looked into the abyss
of your deepest darkest desires
With an ever aching longing for yesterday
burning in your soul
and a deep dreary dread
for what tomorrow without a doubt
would bring
You knock'em down
one by one
day by day
over and over again
The sour grapes of life
the bitter taste of reality
It's blinding you from your dreams
cradling you in it's compact greyness
Rocking you back and forth in dullness
Until you have finally reached total
nothingness and numbness
You have seased to exist
instead you sustain
You're tucked away
hidden safely from pain

Enter on stage
the spawn that flew the cuckoos nest
He brings your talent
and your dreams
And he couples it with borrowed drive
and ambition
He's chartered a shuttle
to mend his broken wings
It's fueled with broken souls
and stolen stamina
He's close to the stars
Hope awakens
breaks through your numbness
and dullness
And makes your life a different shade of grey

Here's to you
you are alive again
with a frenzy that borders on desperation
you rise out of the depths
with fiery dedication
You fight against boredom
like an urgent crusader of the mundane

Those grey walls are still just one step away
but here's to you running
Hooray for vicarious living
it's the perfect substitute for life.

"Rocking you back and forth with dullness." What a great line!I would be very interested in what exactly you were reading in those news feeds? what were the pictures?
your poem here is edgy and direct, I like it!
Thank you for sharing.

Elisabeth, this effort required soul searching and creative DNA my friend -- you managed one very well and proved that you have the requisite DNA -- peace and love to you -- JM
