Fostered To Fall

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Twice the heavens rained on me
to heartache I was no stranger.
I danced around dark forces that be
my trusted companion was danger.

Compelled by sorrow and drawn to pain
I saw no reason at all to seek shelter from rain.
Through heavy downpour
I stayed for more.

I sought out mysteries of untold kind
to find the strenght for peace of mind.
Yet through it all I saw the truth
wich I had learned in youth.

The only salvation from darkness that be
is plain and simple to make peace with me.
I am the creator of my own life and as it is,
so it is because I allowed this.

I had to make a break from the shame that shackled me
and by doing so I could set myself free.
It was no easy task I assure you
but it had to be done and I suffered through.

What I saw: there is no shame in being in pain
most of us try to escape through the rain.
It isn't a weakness at all
it's how we've been fostered to fall.

Looking back in time I can only say
my heart is with those who struggle still to this day.
My thoughts are with you
my strength of will to carry you through.

This is full of such wisdom, and I agree peace is the only way. ...for me shame is a four letter word, people abuse themselves with it all too much. I love your style of writing, you know how to tell a story.

I appreciate the philosophical perspective that you have shared here, Elisabeth; I find it very empathic. Thank you. Love and best wishes,
