Here is what really happened:

We walked down the road hand in hand
some magic in the night
made the stars shine bright.
For all I know you could be the one
you made my heart feel soft
and my toes curl up.

We talked all night leaned back in opposite corners
of the sofa,
hands held a glass of wine
that lasted from dawn to dusk.
And what you said beautiful one
was so much like what I felt
and made me dream of rose strewn path
where together we knealt.

Here is what I remember:

Oh so many nights were spent sleepless
I spoke and you agreed
