Looking back

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

I don't know what to write
I have no words
I wish to write in pen
on paper
But here I am in front of
static blue screen

I could tell about me
many years ago
I remember times
running cross a field
of golden wheat
of green grass
and yellow dandylions

Warm wind in my hair
on my face
The smell of flowers
heavy in the air
Those were good times
they were the best

Those were the times
when I was yet to be
put to the test

But I can also tell of times
looking back on hard days
sharp as steel
cold as knife

Looking back
taking note of lessons
extracting valuables

For nothing in life is in vain
there is always reason
behind reason

Elisabeth, on balance we are fortunate if we have even a few of the really good days. Our challenges and the obstacles are numerous and formidable. They drive us to make everything better and to learn and share our knowledge with others. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. I wish you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

The good days as opposed to the bad ones at least gives us a place to begin to understand the reason, and if there is a reason behind it somehow, someway, maybe it will all make sense . . .
