Trickle trickle

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Trickle trickle, round it goes
bringing heat, bringing warmth,
bringing restless nights.

When heard at night  this sound
forbodes a chilling dawn,
frostbitten grass, white powdered
rustling leaves crushed under my foot.

It has a job to do,
with swift motion moving hot water
through pipes (no doubt rusty).
It has worked for many years,
no perhaps time has come to retire.

Trickle trickle, round it goes
bringing heat, bringing warmth,
bringing restless nights.

Love this. So familiar with this archaic bad apartment heating nightmare. Yes worthy of a horror story never mind a poem!

I remember these nights I was kept awake by the pipes of the apartment complex I lived at in Queens, New York. A horrible way to spend your nights.
