The Knave

Fool me once, shame on you
fool me twice, shame on me.
Well, shame on me
but shame no more.
For now I see you clearer
then I ever saw before.

And then  you turn to her from me.
For  yet again  she have lost the will to see.
Soon she'll see and you'll
come running back to me,
but no more, I'm not waiting,
I'll be long gone.

You'll  find someone else
ready and willing
to help you flee,
from the mess you made
once you had your filling.

And she will sit and listen
to the tale you spin on why
you're sad and in trouble,
but oh, not at your own fault you mind,
and she will pet your hair, tell you words of comfort.
She will try to be your strength and carry you, feeling like your hero.
Until the day comes when SHE in turn,  see you clear
and then she's the one who's trouble, at least in your mind, because it's never you (don't you mind?).

Isn't it hard to never be wrong?
So you can NEVER have something
be all right?
You can never be happy,
because there is always someone
feeling sorry for you for what you have.

You can never take pride in your partner,
you can never live in the open.
So sad, so miserable, so terribly weak, you always need help and reassurance.

You will never find peace,
nor comfort.

Forever will you walk in the dark,
only experience happiness based on a lie,
and carried on the wings of somebody who has love enough for two.
Keep going until you burn out yet another flame,
oh, what a pity, what a shame.
But you're never the one to blame....

If this is a poem about revenge remember this...revenge comes in a mirror reflection right back to us and only spirals out of control.
Move on to better things and live a life above the past after it's buried.

Peace be with you...

Oh this persona I know well...lessons learned. I think the message here is a bit of introspection merged with caution for the next time out, Elisabeth...wise words to be taken in heed oh we do bleed.

It's always a painful thing to be hurt once
trust is broken... but wishing discomfort on another
is something I could never do... however, with that said
a wonderfully written piece...

"You probably think this song [poem] is about you." Carly Simon. Clearly another, "get back at him," poem. I think you need to get off that track and back on the market for new man without his characteristics.
