The Lovers, The Knave, The Devil and Death

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Monday, November 14, 2022

Throughout the centuries

memories whisper.

Tales of lovers united,

only to be ripped apart.

Legends weaved from

silent echoes that repeat again and again.

An endless cycle,

caught in the wheel of life

The lovers walk closely together

with the knave.

For it takes a trusting carefree heart

to surrender so completely to another.

They're hunted forever

by the devil.

Who's lust and passion

can only bring jealousy.

And by death who transforms

and bring about violent change.

Only the Pentacle can set them free

for in all senses lies the key.

And nature herself will reveal

the only way to heal.
