Eulogy

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Sunday, November 27, 2022

In case of my untimely demise
you may mourn but not chast ise.

I watched so many make
a mockery of memories,
in eulogy they sanctify
a demon of theirs.

Why the masquerade?
Why the charade?

Speak and you shall heal.
Write and you shall feel
the beaten heart again.

My wish of this life is,
that I have been kind
enough
to earn to be loved.

I have walked but a shadow
in the valley of death.
Soul a sliver,
sliced out of the gold
there once was.

Fear an eerie echo
covered
every last atom
in me.

I want...

To make you see.
To make you feel.
What you
did
to me.

I'm but a
crawling space
in the
corners
of your dark
mind
a
scape goat
that
you
hide
behind.

From your
war
rest
a ghost
that
once
was me.

Look.

In the butchers
cabinet.

A blender
that
mixed
my
brain
until nothing
remained.

Behind the creaking
door
of
a
home
hide
a
monster.

This will be
his
eulogy
.
