Obsession

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Another one of my swedish poems that I translated. I wrote this 2014.

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Look at me with your eyes full of obsession
as you

try to squeeze every drop out of my soul

You’re falling apart, you know that

so why don't you say something?

Your space is slowly shrinking

for each new attempt to possess me

I don't know what you expect,

that I should be like the others?

That passed you
in a row
like pearls thrown before swine

Lace, tulle and limitlessness

in high heels

It's not me

I have the magic to love myself for who I am

tell me

Is that what you are asking for?

Obsession does not lose anything in translation. Beautifully rendered.
