Skilled Warrior

This title will speak volumes I hope.

I feel the need to express
to sort through and
dig out the bones
a' rattling in the back
of my memory

air out the
stale ol'
smells,
that tickle
my mood bone

a sore thumb
in my eye
chafing
just enough
to make my
world come
crashing down
like an unecxpected
journey
with the ghost
of christmas passed

like a rubberband
you pull me back
and I swear I am
drowning
I ghasp for air
that will not
reach my lungs

sometimes a flashback
hit me so hard
I spin our of control
and I am there again
living the nightmare
over again

I know it by name
and speak it
out loud
will drive away
the pain

Your poem describes what I would consider a victim, not a warrior. But perhaps you are describing the kinds of mental torment that you are warding off like a skilled warrior so that you can live a more happy life. But you certainly have developed some skills for warding off of the danger you see both your past maybe in the future.

it sounds like you lived through a traumatic romance...maybe not quite abuse but mental violence. Well done...
