On Faith

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

I listened to an interview: Nick Cave, on faith, grief and music, today. Made me think of my first, and only time in Sunday School as a little girl of three years of age. Here's the story in all it's glory. And my thoughts on christianity. I think it is a beautiful idea. A beautiful set of life rules and moral code, wich I follow. It's also a comforting thought, that there is someone out there that has our back and is all powerful. But just the same, I don't believe in God.

Poem Artwork

Waves of doubt.
Saling through,
waves of light.
could it to be true .

Diamonds of white,
beautiful the light.

Through the waves of blood,
in the name of God.
At the flood gate,
trust evaporate.

The horrors that carried out,
in the name of christ.
Impossible to wipe clean,
covering the sheen.

A heart so hard to find,
lack of empathy, blind.

I know history is a bypass,
still
just dark enough covering the glass
of spiritual lens,
wich I am
trying to cleanse.
No luck
I'm stuck
in
disbelief.

Stains to deep,
hill to steep.

Always this scientific mind,
trying hard to find,
reasons
for
treasons.

Reason to overflow
the doubt that grow.

Questions I ask:
can he be seen?
-no.
But what does that meen?
How can you believe what you
cant see?
- well, my child. That is faith, you see.

Can you touch and feel?
- No my child, but your mind
it will heal.

But how do you know that
God is really the one healing you?
- No my child. I don't. But I believe.

But then you don't know
that God is real do you?
-My child, you can't come
back no more if you keep
asking these questions.
You might stear the others
from belief.

But then it's because
they can't touch and see
and feel. Isn't it?

Silence fell deep,
down that steep
hill of disbelief.
