Angels they Are

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Growing pains, corrosion start,
will last a lifetime, if you part
your mind from your heart.

If you dont believe look to yourself.
Have you placed your true self on a shelf,
to wait until you come out of your shell?

Is harmony within you?
Or is harmony without you?
Are you being true ?

As happy as you may be
in your family tree.
Do you feel free?

Yearning inside and out.
Feeling like you could shout
to the world what you are about.

But something inside keeps you back.
You have lost your track,
by your own attack.

You stack accomplishments.
Deter compliments,
to make amends
from some invisible crime
way past time,
no longer in line.

If I could have one wish made real
it would be to make the people of this world feel
their own value, their own light,
so they can finally take to flight.

Soar like the angels they are,
towards accolade and stars,
that will come by themselfes,
now that they're no longer shelfed.

Glorious beautiful mantra of love and goodness towards humanity

Hi Lady Liz, this's a difficult or rather a complex poem to unravel, for the "you" you "apostrophise" (once again in successive poems) remains entwined with the persona and the reader is perplexed as to whether you have not appropriated his role as yours, and yet - when you conclude in the last three stanzas - it would appear you are actually speaking for yourself and addressing the world at large as "angels". Laudable sentiments for your fellow beings but aren't they a bit idealistic ? Still no harm in voicing such feelings, I guess. One stanza midway made me wonder if you were not talking about someone in particular. No matter. Best. TW
