Shared Happiness

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

If you cannot be happy for others when they succeed, then you can never be truly Happy.

Tuesday, March 14, 2023

My friend, through your eyes I can see the world
Through your happiness I can feel happy

When you feel sad I will be your shoulder to lean on
I will help you best as I can without pushing
needless advice upon your burdon that would
cause you to not feel heard and understood.

I promise to always tell you of my blessings from
our Lady Fortuna, because I know that you in turn
will feel happy for me and for a moment you can live
vicariously through me, which could lighten your burdon some.

In our lifes our forward motion will sometimes hit trouble
or trouble will hit us. Let us not be worried in advance of
things which has not yet happened. But if you are, just
know that you're not alone. It happens to most of us
time and time again when life is moving so fast we
can barely hold on to the steering wheel. I know all
to well, that feeling of urgent rush somewhere, constantly ahead.

Sometimes I wish I could carry your load and sometimes
you wish you could carry mine.
Maybe that's the time that we need the most to sit down
together, over coffee perhaps and just lean on eachother.
That's what friends are for.

Perhaps watch some silly makeover reality show
and cry in happiness over the strangers that succeed.
Because that is such a rewarding feeling,
knowing that miracles do happen if you work for them.
Happiness lives within and without. We can only do our best
and work hard not to isolate ourselfs from it.

Such beautiful thoughts! If more people had your perspective on life, what a wonderful world it would be. I am having a cup of coffee right now, so your wisdom is working on me already. Thanks.
