Trails of breadcrumbs

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Leaving trails of breadcrumbs as I go,
my heart an open book,
my soul Tabula Rasa.
I'm ready to be molded
into heartshapes that I will sprinkle
across my path for you.

Love me gently as the mild breeze'
caress on my cheeks.
I am the leaf blowing your way
to set myself upon your doorstep.
Your footprints to adorn with
all the colors of my love.

I am a fairytale with an ending
not yet clear, a storybook
with a chapter missing.
As I read out loud the letters,
(dotted all the I's with little hearts)
my tears of longing stain
the soft pages of my love.

It is true that I am lost in
your unchartered back waters,
but it is only because they
are flooding with the tears
I have wept for you.

My journey is one that I have
made for myself to endure
on cold nights when my
imagination is running wild
at the thought of you
and I can almost imagine
that you are true .

A passionate resonance that vibrates its need to be heard by that one you love. Well-written admission of humanness.
