Magic Force

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Trying to describe the fear of a free soul falling in love, trying to escape that pull to another soul. It’s been described time and time again. In poetry, in lyrics, in art. Should we name it Love or Muse? It don’t matter. It awakens creativity.

Life has a funny way
of teaching lessons each day
My lesson was my love for you
that seemed unreal and now it's through
I'm moving on from the harm it made to me
my only focus now is to be true , to be
Never lost myself this way before
but hey, why keep some sort of score?

Loosing myself that way and for what?
A mirage up ahead, a sneak attack
on my mind and now I got it back
I'm never loosing it again
until next time you say 'when'

Do I need to fortify my inner walls,
not to hear your magic calls?
Maybe I have other lessons waiting
for the next time you're baiting
my soul to yours
with magic force

No Ron. I’m describing the initial stage of falling in love and the fear of loosing oneself in the strong feeling. A rational being fearing it is an unhealthy feeling and trying to reach a balance. The battle between heart, soul and mind, wich can be a rapid game of pingpong going back and forth and can continue on for a few days, weeks or months depending on how anchored you are in your rational individualistic thinking.

I sense there's something more. Perhaps you are describing a codependent relationship. Where someone wants to be free but really can't be free. Too many relationships are like this. When the love is gone, the dependency still exists.

The best relationships are those where both parties can live on their own alone without the other. When that happens, the relationship is sound and lasting.
