Half-moon madness
and the promise it brings
We file in-
the church bell rings
The dead exist
in spirit form
The face of illness
drawn, forlorn
Atop the hill where
witches hanged
Negotioate the
stiff terrain
Dripping slowly
leaking driving
prisoners
and
punishers alike
in
sane
The laughter of
our youths is stilled
and silence falls,
as if 'twere willed
And darkness is
the blanket covering
bodies that are
damp & chilled
The frightened glance
of passersby as
madman bellows
at the sky
And I-
I wander 'til
I die and
sacrificial virgins
lie
